Nigeria losses TB expert, Prof Lawson to COVID-19 at National hospital

Nigeria has lost Professor Lovett Lawson a Tuberculosis, TB, and infectious diseases expert as he died yesterday evening of COVID-19 in quarantine at the National Hospital, Abuja.

In a social media post by Stop TB Partnership announced that Professor Lawson who is the Patron of Stop TB Nigeria and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Zankli Medical Centre Abuja died from underlying health conditions which made it difficult for him to recover the COVID-19 condition.

The message read, “ With sadness of heart but with gratitude to God for a life well spent, we announce the death of our Patron- Prof. Lovett Lawson.”

National Hospital spokesman Dr Tayo Haastrup who confirmed Professor Lawson’s death did not state if he died from Covid-19 complications but he said, “I can confirm that Prof. Lawson died at the National Hospital today. His loss is a painful one indeed.”

Lawson, who was an expert in clinical tropical medicine graduated from the University of Lagos in 1975, and later bagged a PhD from the University of Liverpool.
