Arrangements have been completed for the commencement of civil Works for Mabera Storm Water Management Works in Sokoto South and Rehabilitation of Lugu Dam in Wurno local government areas by the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project NEWMAP Sokoto.
Project Coordinator Alhaji Ibrahim Umar dropped the hints today in the Rima Fm audience participation programme ” INA GIZO KE SA KA ”
Alhaji Ibrahim Umar said, the Works was in collaboration between Sokoto State government and World Bank.
According to him, the State government has already disbursed its counterparts fund of about one point thirty three billion naira for the Works.
He explained that, all consultancy services related to the Works especially Mabera flood control have been completed.
He further said already a qualified contracting firm has been selected out of the firms that participated in bidding exercise and forwarded to the World bank for approval.
He said as soon as the bank released the approval, the Works would commenced in earnest.
Meanwhile, in an efforts to address erosion in the State, the Project Coordinator said, over two million seedlings have been raised by the Project.
He added that, the Project is doing its best in controlling flood in the State capital.
To this end, the Project is currently under taking desilting of about 30 klm drainage systems in the Metropolis.
Alhaji Ibrahim Umar therefore called on people to always support government programs and policies to achieve the desired results.
