African Centre for Leadership, Strategy & Development, Centre LSD, has reiterated the fact that there is a scarcity of leaders and leadership all over the world, especially in Africa and Nigeria, in particular.
The discussion came up as a result of the centre’s deliberation on its forthcoming 2020 Leadership Champions Award.
The Executive Director, Centre LSD, Mr. Monday Osasah, who revealed this in Abuja, explained that leadership is paramount for any individual, organization or nation to harness her full potential and succeed.
In his citings, he said some scholars have pointed out that everything rises and falls on leadership. “According to Myles Munroe, the world is filled with followers, supervisors and Managers but very few leaders.”
For the past ten years, he said the Centre, through its Leadership School, has been on the forefront of training Nigerians to become strategic leaders who will be able to envision the future and help to map out strategies.
Expatiating, Osasah stressed that the school focuses on both “Leader Development (expanding the capacity of individuals for effective leadership roles and processes) and Leadership Development (expansion of organizations’ capacity to enact basic leadership tasks including setting direction, creating alignment, and maintaining commitment).”
It would be noted that the Leadership Champion Award is designed to recognize past and present graduands of Centre LSD Leadership School who have utilized the knowledge, skills and network gained from the school to advance their career, proffer solutions to tough challenges, and helped in the development of other leaders.
The Executive Director noted that past students of the school, including the 2 sets graduating in August and September are strongly encouraged to nominate/apply for the award
According to him, categories available for the awards include Career Advancement where Applicants are expected to show how the leadership school have helped in advancing their career with concrete evidence.
Also, it hopes to develop other leaders. The award requires applicants to show how they have used the training from the leadership school to train other leaders.
The recipients are expected to indicate the number of persons trained and the curriculum used for the training.
Meanwhile, the centre emphasised the need for applications and nominations to be sent to leadershipschool@centrelsd.org, on or before August 15th.
