2027: Delta South Deserves Quality Representation, Says Orette
By Ebireri Henry Ovie
Nigerian-American family medicine physician and African Democratic Congress (ADC) senatorial aspirant for Delta South, Dr. Austin Orette, has reaffirmed his intention to contest the 2027 senatorial election, saying the district deserves competent and effective representation.
Orette, who spoke with journalists in Lagos, said his decision to join the ADC followed his experience with the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), where he claimed he did not experience the level playing field and internal democracy he expected. He said the ADC provides a platform where competence, accountability, inclusion and good governance can thrive.
“Every politician deserves a level playing field. I believe political parties must uphold transparency, fairness and internal democracy,” Orette said. The senatorial aspirant said his previous political experience had strengthened his resolve and better prepared him for the 2027 contest.
He rejected the argument that incumbency or previous political experience automatically makes a candidate more qualified, stressing that effective representation requires competence, integrity, accessibility and vision. “Representation goes beyond making speeches in Abuja. It requires accessibility, competence, integrity and the courage to defend the interests of the people,” he said. Orette also dismissed suggestions that electoral success depended primarily on the backing of political godfathers and financial resources.
According to him, his campaign will rely on ideas, grassroots engagement, volunteers and public trust. He outlined his proposed agenda for Delta South to include quality education and skills development, youth employment and entrepreneurship, improved healthcare, infrastructure and rural development, as well as economic empowerment through agriculture, technology and support for small businesses. “I want to become a Senator because I believe public office is an opportunity to solve problems, not merely occupy a position,” he said.
Orette expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the judiciary, urging the institutions to remain independent, transparent and committed to protecting Nigeria’s democracy.
He appealed to voters in Delta South to participate actively in the 2027 election and choose candidates based on competence rather than sentiment. “Elections belong to the people, not to incumbents. I believe Delta South deserves choices, and I am presenting myself as one of those choices,” he said.
Orette expressed confidence that the ADC would secure victory in the district in 2027, while appealing to residents to support his campaign for what he described as quality and accountable representation.
