BREAKING: NLC, NEC endorses indefinite nationwide strike

National Executive Council, NEC of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, on Thursday approved the planned nationwide strike by the Central Working Committee, CWC of the union over the recent increase in the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) also known as ‘petrol’ and electricity tariffs.

The NLC, along with its sister union, the Trade Union Congress, TUC, had earlier gave notice of nationwide strike billed to commence on September 28 if the government failed to rescind its decision on the increment.

In a communiqué signed by the NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba and the General Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja, the NEC said it took the decision was taken at its meeting of September 22 in Abuja having appraised the outcome of the last emergency meeting of the CWC held on September 16 over the government’s actions on the petrol and electricity.

The NEC is comprises all the Presidents, General Secretaries and Treasurers of NLC’s affiliate unions; Chairpersons and Secretaries of State Councils and the FCT; and members of NLC National Administrative Council.
