World Teachers Day: It’s not well with Teachers in Kogi State – NUT Chairman

Th Kogi state Chairman of Nigerian Union of Teachers, (NUT), Comrade Ayodele Thomas on Monday in Lokoja frowned over the continuous payment of percentage salaries to teachers in kogi.

The Chairman who expressed his feelings in a chat with Journalists while marking this year’s World Teachers’ day in Lokoja said  “it’s not well with Teachers in the State”.

He lamented the percentage payment of salaries to Teachers in the state which according to him has affected the teaching profession economically, and appealed to the state Government to commence payment of full salaries to teachers so as to alleviate their suffering in Kogi state.

He disclosed that there won’t be a nation if there’s no Teacher, decried low level of infrastructure and instructional materials to Primary Schools, called for an improvement in the welfare of teachers.

He pointed out that non cash backing of promotions and payment of other allowances that would have motivated the Teachers in the state has contributed to the low performance and not even giving their best in the discharge of their duties.

Comr Ayodele Thomas used the occasion to encourage young ones in the society to join the Teaching profession, this he explained would enable the young ones to replace the retiring officers.

The NUT Chairman described this year’s theme of the 2020 World Teachers Day: “Young Teachers : the future of the Profession”, as coming at a better time to motivate and encourage young ones to join the Teaching profession, and to contribute there quota to nation building.

The NUT Chairman used the occasion to call on the Kogi State Head of Service to help out with the release of the names of teachers who are yet to be cleared during the screening, said when released, it would help boost teaching manpower in the State.
