Why Christian Pulisic missed Chelsea’s premier league clash against Burnley

Christian Pulisic replaced by Timo Werner in Chelsea team for Burnley clash after suffering injury in warm-up.

Christian Pulisic missed Chelsea’s Premier League clash against Burnley after suffering an injury in the warm-up.

The Blues travelled to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon to face a Burnley side who are still searching for their first victory of the 2020-21 season.

Pulisic was named in Frank Lampard’s starting XI but then had to be replaced by Timo Werner after the USA international ‘picked up a knock’ in the warm-up.

Germany striker Werner, who has scored four goals in nine appearances for Chelsea, was initially named on the bench by Lampard but started after Pulisic was ruled out.

Lampard made three other changes changes from last weekend’s goalless draw at Manchester United, with Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech coming in and Jorginho and Cesar Azpilicueta missing out.

”🚨 There’s a late change to our starting team. @TimoWerner replaces @CPulisic_10 and young goalkeeper Karlo Ziger is on the bench.

#BURCHE https://t.co/xs6tXhLhAm— Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) October 31, 2020 Discussing Chelsea’s trip to Burnley, Lampard said: ‘I would always respect a Burnley team managed by Sean Dyche with the qualities that they have.

‘I watched the game against Tottenham and they were very unfortunate to not take anything from the game against a very good Tottenham team.

‘It was everything you would expect from Burnley in terms of their organisation, effort, desire and qualities.

‘I think you can pigeon hole Burnley, but I don’t. I know they have quality players, a very effective way of playing and a quality manager so I expect a tough match.’
