Gov. Bello Engages 150 Lawyers For Citizens Rights Commission In Kogi

In order to fast-track Dispensation of Justice System and to ensure that the People have access to justice, equity and fairness, in the state, Gov Yahaya Bello has engaged 150 lawyers.

The Director General, Kogi State Office of The Public Defender and Citizens Rights Commission, ( PDCRC), Barrister  Abdullahi Zakari disclosed this when he visited the commissioner for Information and communication, Kingsley Fanwo in his office.

The visit According to the Director was to find a common ground on ways of promoting the activities of the commission and how to achieve their objectives that is aimed at facilitating quick justice for the indigents.

He pointed out that the commission  has the  mandate to investigate and report issues that bothers on human rights, resolve domestic violence, protect the rights of citizens and end delay of judgment.

“It would be recalled that the commission which was established on 3rd June 2019, mandated the commission to provide legal aids and assistance to persons who lack the capacity to engage the services of a lawyer.” he added.

In his response, the commissioner for information, Hon. Kingsley Fanwo, restated Governor Yahaya Bello’s administration’s believe in human rights and administration of criminal justice.

While assuring the Commission of his Ministry’s support, Fanwo said the state government is interested in publicizing the activities of the commission adding that Kogi state is one of the first few States to put the structure of Public Defender and Citizens Rights in place.

Hon Fanwo who expressed worries on the spate of brutalities of law enforcement agencies says, government will continue to ensure that indigents are free from all forms of brutalities.
