Former VC expresses worry over FG, ASUU’s rift

By Isaac Kertyo Makurdi

Former Vice Chancellor, Benue State University (BSU) Makurdi, Professor David Ker has expressed worry over the prolonged rift between the federal government and Academic staff Union of Universities, ASUU, saying that it would affect the education system in Nigeria.

The Don who made his position known in Makurdi called on the Federal Government to prioritize the university education in the country to put an end to the constant crises between the duo for faster development.

Prof. Ker contended that it was worrisome that the Federal Government would always renege on its agreement in order for it to turn round to blame ASUU.

He expressed concern over the statement credited to the Ministry of Labour and Productivity Imploring lecturers to go and farm, noting that the comment was not only embarrassing but careless.

The Academic described the year 2020 as a very difficult year with many challenges ranging from Covid-19 pandemic, economic, political to security, saying these have affected the economic fortunes of the country.
