The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Faruk Yahaya, has cautioned troops to be circumspect while undertaking emergency operations or responding to distress calls to save lives in the Northeast.
He gave the advice during a commiseration visit to sympathise with troops who were involved in a road traffic accident, Thursday, at Garin Kuturu, along Maiduguri- Damaturu road.
According to a statement issued by Director Army Public Relations, DAPR, Brigadier General, Onyema Nwachukwu, said that while the troops were responding to a distress call, one of the Gun trucks conveying the troops skidded off the road and rammed into a road shoulder, causing the vehicle to somersault.
The DAPR hinted that no fatality was recorded but nine personnel sustained various degrees of injury during the accident and have since been evacuated to military medical facility for medical attention.
The COAS Lt Gen. Faruk Yahaya, lauded the troops for their swift response and urged them to be more circumspect during emergency operational responses and wished them quick recovery.
