Kogi Poly Matriculates 6,385 Students, Expel 150 Over Cultism, Other Social Vices

The Rector of the Kogi state Polytechnic, Dr Salisu Usman Ogbo on Saturday in Lokoja disclosed that the institution has matriculated 6,385 students for the 2020/2021 academic session.

Dr. Usman who disclosed this at the the matriculation ceremony at the convocation square said out of the number, 4,512 are for National Diploma, (ND) and 1, 873 for Higher National Diploma, (HND).

Ogbo disclosed that the programme cut across six schools, including the newly established School of Agricultural Technology, Itakpe.

He, however, reminded the students that the institution totally prohibit anyone under any guise to force students to buy textbooks as a precondition for performance in the Continuous Assessment, (CA), and examination.

The Rector warned the new students to shun cultism and other vices in the institution adding “the Polytechnic under my watch has zero tolerance for all forms of social vices such as cultism, gun-running, examination malpractices, drug abuse, divisive tendencies, cyber crimes, incitement, violence, gangsterism, misuse and destruction of school property stealing and in-descent dressing.”

“Since we came on board, we have so far expelled over 150 students on cases bothering on cultism, examination misconduct, and forging of entry document among others as part of our aggressive campaign against rots and unethical engagements.”

He pointed out that “with the support of the Nigerian Police and the State Government in particular, we successfully secured judgement leading to the conviction and sentence of an ND II student of Public Administration, Mr.Tenimu Muhammed to eight years in prison for unlawful possession of firearms and belonging to an unlawful society (Cult)”

“The convict was apprehended with a locally made pistol and some live ammunition while making his way to the campus to sit for his final paper.”

Dr. Usman further disclosed that his administration has made significant impressive achievements in the area of infrastructural development especially the renovation project of hostel blocks that was vacated about five years ago.
