The Prince of Wales and heir to the British throne, Prince Charles; and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, have arrived Abuja for a three day visit to Nigeria.

They arrived the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport at exactly 1.10pm Tuesday and were received by Senior Nigerian and British officials.

Prince Charles and his wife, who are in Nigeria as part of a 9-day tour of some African countries, are expected to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari before meeting with various segments of the Nigerian society including traditional rulers, women and entrepreneurs, among others.

Mr Paul Arkwright, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria, announced in Abuja on Sunday that Prince Charles would engage in peace-building activities, including addressing the persistent attacks of herdsmen on farming communities in Nigeria.

Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) ahead of the visit, Arkwright said that one of the events on the agenda was for Prince Charles to discuss practical solutions to alleviating the tensions, arising from the activities of herdsmen.

He noted that the visit was also aimed at strengthening the existing ties between Nigeria and Britain as members of the Commonwealth.

The duchess is also to engage in literary activities with children and some Nigerian authors, while the prince would meet with traditional rulers and hold peace-building meeting with Nigerian youth ambassadors.

It was earlier reported that Prince Charles, his wife Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, have begun African tour and Nigeria is one of the countries, they would be visiting.
