Bayelsa command under my watch will be professional – CP Okolo

From Rhoda Godwin, Yenagoa

A new Commissioner of Police for Bayelsa State upon resumption on Monday, CP Benjamin Okolo, said command under my watch will be apolitical and professional in engagement of members of the public and enforcement of law and orders.

He takes over from CP Echeg Echeng who was redeployed to Anambra State on October 12, 2021.

Briefing journalists upon his official resumption at the state command headquarters in Yenagoa, CP Okolo declared that officers would be professional in their conduct while maintaining law and order

He said, “I am aware that the state is being confronted with threats of kidnapping, cultism, and some other heinous crime. To continue to deal with this security challenges, we will synergize with all the stakeholders in the command.

“Particularly, we will take advantage of community engagement of the community policing initiative as well as the effective utilization of intelligence capabilities. In line with the reform agenda of the inspector general of police, towards making the force profession in line with yearnings of Nigerians.

“We will deal with the cases of incivility to members of the public, extortion, and all forms of discredits conduct. To quote the IG in the last briefing, with the commissioners of police , this professional infractions ugly negate our policing values.
Just as the negatively impact on our drive to smoothen our drive to partnership with citizens.

“The inspector general of police Akali Baba has already deployed our monitoring units, escort, and all the Monitoring units, to commence the enforcement drive, that will investigate the indiscipline involved in the unethical conduct.

“The Monitoring units of the escort of this command will be revitalized and energized, and redeployed immediately.
Please note that, stern disciplinary actions will be initiated against any person arrested in connection with this enforcement drive.

“The IGP is unaware of the difficulties policemen face in enforcing of law. He gas set and lined up of welfare packages for us.”

Stressing further, CP Okolo urged the officers to be motivated and carry out their duties with all sense of professionalism, discipline and diligence as programmes were being implemented to alleviate their problems

“Therefore, you have to be motivated, please do your work as possible as you can. There are lots of programs to alleviate our sufferings.

“Finally let me reiterate that our command under my watch will be apolitical and professional in engagement of members of the public and enforcement of law and orders to make Bayelsa safe for all of us.”
