NDLEA Sokoto Command Arrested Over 1993kg Of Illicit Drugs In The Year 2021

Addressing newsmen at the Zonal Command’s headquarters in Sokoto, the Zonal Commandant, Abdullahi Abdul said the Command was able to arrest 149 Dugs Suspects within the year out of which 144 were males and 5 females in the area of seizure.

While giving breaking down of all seizures amounting to 1993.068kg of different types of illicit drugs, the Commandant said that Cannabis sàtiva worth1487. 86kg, 403.634kg of psychotropic substance, 1550 grammes of Heroine and 19 grammes of Amphetamine were among the illicit drugs intercepted by the command.

Abdul said in December last year at Bafarawa Estate bordering Mammy market, 975 kg of Cannabis Sativa was arrested in a single operation saying the investigation is still ongoing.

In the area of Counselling and Rehabilitation, he explained that a total of 98 clients were successfully counselled while 9 were rehabilitated 8 referred and 9 currently undergoing rehabilitation.

Abdullahi Abdul said there is hardly any family that is not contending with the challenges of a drug dependent persons adding that it is in the same vein that the entire society is battling with the same cases of banditry, kidnapping, thuggery, rape and all forms of social vices exasperated by substance abuse.

He therefore called on Leaders to remind their subjects that drugs are harmful to health,ruin careers, break homes,fuel violence and criminalities and that drugs trafficking disrupts the economy and eventually destroys a nation.

He said with the present leadership of Brigadier-General Muhammad Buba Marwa who is the Chairman and Chief Executive of National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency and the support of Federal and other stakeholders, the problem of drug abuse and trafficking in Nigeria is on its way to being under control.

He acknowledged and appreciated the continuous support of the state government under the leadership of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar 111 who is always accessible on all matters concerning Drugs Free Society.

He similarly commended the collaborative assistance of all sister agencies, NGOs, the media and other stakeholders numerous to mention.
