Abducted Baby Sold for N800,000 was rescued in Lagos Market

A baby, allegedly sold for N800,000 by a maid, has been successfully rescued in a market in the Shomolu area of Lagos State. The distressing incident unfolded when a Twitter user, #Dannysleek, raised an alarm on Saturday, reporting that a maid hired through an agency had disappeared with the baby from a residence in Shomolu around 2 am.

The maid, identified as Ruth Okezie from Anambra State, was later located in Ikorodu without the baby. During questioning, she confessed to selling the child for N800,000. Following the widespread sharing of the incident on social media, the police intensified their efforts, leading to the recovery of the abandoned baby in Alade Market, Shomolu.

In a Monday morning update on his X handle, the Lagos Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, stated that the rescued baby had been positively identified and returned to her parents. The police are still pursuing the buyer, who is currently evading arrest.

#Dannysleek also confirmed the positive outcome on his X handle, expressing gratitude to the Twitter community for their support in spreading the news and helping in the baby’s safe return.
