Timothy Otu, a pastor from the Agape Evangelical Ministry situated at Obikabia Junction in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State, has been taken into custody by the Abia State Police Command in relation to the demise of a 43-year-old woman named Happiness Echieze.

The incident took place at a hotel in Ovom village on August 12, 2023, around 9:23 pm. Both the pastor and the woman had checked into the hotel, and tragically, the woman was discovered deceased in the pastor’s hotel room. The State Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, revealed these details in a statement released to the press on Thursday.

Following the report made by Mr. Godwin Akpan, a resident of Jubilee Guest House in Ovom Village, to the Isialangwa Police Division on August 13, 2023, at approximately 9:30 am, authorities were alerted to the unfortunate incident. According to Akpan’s account, he found the lifeless body of Happiness Echieze, unclothed and emitting a white substance from her mouth and nose, within the hotel room that was occupied by Pastor Timothy Otu and the deceased woman.

The clergyman was absent from the scene when Mr. Akpan made this grim discovery. Preliminary investigations into the matter have commenced. The body of the deceased has been transferred to the SDA Mortuary in Aba, awaiting a post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.

Maureen Chinaka’s statement explained, “Preliminary investigations have been launched into this matter. The deceased’s body has been transported from the location and is currently at the SDA Mortuary in Aba, awaiting an autopsy. Additionally, the suspect in this case has been apprehended and the case has been transferred to the State CID for discreet investigations.”
