The Abia State Police Command has officially confirmed the tragic killing of 57-year-old Mmaduka Ogbonna by his 27-year-old son, Chinalu Ogbonna, in Amuzukwu, Umuahia North Local Government Area.

According to ASP Maureen Chinaka, the Police Public Relations Officer, the incident was reported to the CPS Umuahia around 8:00 AM on Tuesday. Detectives from CPS Umuahia visited the crime scene and discovered the lifeless body of the victim with his left eye gouged out.

Chinalu Ogbonna, the suspect, was apprehended at his residence on Umu Eze Road, opposite Junior Girls Secondary School Amuzukwu Ibeku, where he resided with his father. Investigations revealed that he allegedly strangled his father to death with the intention of using his left eye for money rituals.

A community source, speaking anonymously, mentioned that Chinalu Ogbonna had a history of drug involvement, despite being his father’s favorite and receiving significant protection from him.

In a separate incident, the Plateau State Police Command arrested Joseph Yakubu, 29, for allegedly killing his father, Yakubu Dalyop, with a pestle.
