Abuja ICC Facility Ready For Commercial Use, Says Wike

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The FCT Minister Barr Nysome Wike has said that the newly renovated International Conference Centre, ICC, in the Capital to be inaugurated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu tomorrow 10th June 2025 will be ready for commercial and public use.

Wike made this known on Monday, after inspecting the renovated ICC, the Outer Southern Expressway going to Wassa, and the Gishiri road construction project in Abuja.

The reopening of the ICC edifice is following the close down of the centre by the FCT minister in April 2024 for a period of eight months, after cancelling all previously booked events and activities, due to physical poor maintenance by the previous managers, Messrs Integrated Facility Management Services Limited.
The minister had called for comprehensive renovation o the facility as he reawarded the contract to Julius Berger; on completion to be handed back to the Abuja Investment Company Limited.
The minister, however, explained that the FCT administration will enter an agreement with Julius Berger for the maintenance of the facility.

According to him, the new technological installations would not pose a problem or complications for the local staff who worked in the facility to operate, giving the assurance that the administration will ensure that things are done seamlessly.

“The centre will be maintained by Julius Berger, the company that built it. We’re not going to hand it over to any politician to manage. Maintenance is a significant challenge in this country, and we’re committed to doing things differently.”

“The agreement with Julius Berger will ensure that maintenance is done properly. We’re working on the details, and once the agreement is signed, we’ll make sure that anyone who uses the centre pays for maintenance.”

and we’ll start operations soon after commissioning, he said.
Meanwhile, the FCT Administration will commence a 17 days of inauguration of projects across Abuja and the satellite towns.
