Adamawa State Government and Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) set to establish 89 million liters per annum biofuel plant in Adamawa.
The project when established would produce 89 million liters per annum of fuel ethanol that could be blended into the Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and would be used in Nigeria and neighbouring countries.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has allocated 20,000 hectares of land for establishment of the project along Mbilla Farm Mayo-Belwa and Hosere Benbe to Gani Gaku at Yola – Numan road in the state.
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Adamawa Investment and Property Development, Hajiya Rabi Yahaya Ahmad told journalists after she led a delegation from the NNPC headed by the General Manager Joint Venture and Renewable Energy, Mrs Fumilola Ale on an inspection tour to the Biofuel site Wednesday.
Ahmad said the team from NNPC was in Yola to ascertain and inspect the site, pointing out that the team paid a courstesy call on Governor Fintiri where he assured them that government would support the actualisation of the project.
She further said the project was all about production of ethanol as the world was running away from petroleum to energy, adding that a memorandum of understanding was expected to be signed between the state government and NNPC for the project.
Ahmad commended Governor Fintiri for allocating the land and appealed for realisation of the project because of its economic importance and Adamawa would be on world map of states that would be producing ethanol.
She disclosed that the community where the project would be established would be the first to benefit from the Biofuel Plant, reiterating that more communities would come to settle there as everybody would be involved.
The team leader of the delegation from the NNPC, Mrs Fumilola Ale who is the General Manager of Joint Venture and Renewable Energy appreciated Governor Fintiri for the provision of the land, revealing that work would start immediately.
She assured that her team would report back to Abuja that Adamawa State Government was ready for the project, adding that the Biofuel project when established would boost the revenue generation in the state.
According to Mrs Ale, other economic importance of the Biofuel include, creation of employment opportunity both skill and unskilled labour, reduce green house gases emission by having ten percent ethanol, as well as serve as a source of power generation in terms of energy renewable business.
Also speaking, the State Surveyor General, Mr Pwavidon Simon explained that ten thousand hectares of land was located along Mbila Farm Mayo-Belwa, while the other ten thousand hectares was at Hosere Benbe to Gani Gaku along Yola-Numan road making the total of 20,000 hectares.
