Adekunle Gold set to support charity foundations for children with sickle cell

After spending time with children affected by sickle cell disease, Adekunle Gold has announced his intention to donate to charity organizations dedicated to helping these children.

The singer revealed his own battle with sickle cell at a recent show in London, sharing that his journey has been challenging, with frequent hospital visits during his childhood.

Despite encouraging others living with the disease during his performances, Adekunle Gold acknowledges that more action is needed. He has decided to partner with charities to provide better support for children with sickle cell.

In his words:

“It took me years to finally be able to share publicly that I was born with Sickle Cell. Over the last two years, I have spoken about this disease during my performances, but I realize that more needs to be done. Every year, over 100,000 children are born with Sickle Cell in Nigeria alone. Sickle Cell has no cure and is highly under-researched because it largely affects West Africans. This weekend was very emotional for me; I met children living with the disease and spoke with parents who are struggling to cope amidst the economic crisis in the country.

“Thank you to @samiupdate and @sicklecellfoundationng for the work you are doing. I am inspired by the touching stories and encounters I had last weekend, and I want to ensure that all the independent organizations doing the vital work, outreach, and research needed to fight Sickle Cell receive the resources and support they desperately need.

“To my Champions, if I can do it, you can do it too. ❤️”
