Osun State Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, has said Governor Ademola Adeleke will announce his new political party before December 13, following his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adeleke had confirmed in a statement on Monday that he resigned from the PDP on November 4, 2025, submitting his letter to party leaders in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2 of Ede North Local Government Area.
Speaking on a radio programme on Tuesday in Osogbo, Alimi said Adeleke’s exit was driven by prolonged internal crises within the PDP, especially at the national level.
“The governor has formally resigned from the PDP, and it was long overdue,” he said. “We urge the people of Osun to remain calm and continue to support him.”
Alimi explained that the looming governorship election and the rapidly closing nomination window set by the Independent National Electoral Commission contributed to the decision.
“With INEC’s deadline for party nominations closing on December 15, the governor had to take a realistic step,” he added.
Addressing claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) welcomed Adeleke’s resignation, the commissioner dismissed the notion, saying the opposition had expected to exploit the PDP’s crisis against the governor.
He insisted Adeleke was “ahead of the APC” in political strategy.
Alimi said consultations are ongoing and that Adeleke’s next political platform will be made known soon.
“By December 12 or 13, everyone will know where the governor is going,” he stated.
He maintained that Adeleke would have remained in the PDP if not for internal divisions affecting the party’s stability ahead of the 2026 election.
