Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has a chance to become the fourth Nigerian player to win the UEFA Super Cup as he leads Atalanta against Real Madrid tonight in Poland. Lookman, instrumental in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph in May, helped secure the team’s first European title with a decisive hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen.
Despite interest from various European and Saudi clubs, Lookman has stayed with Atalanta, who are set to challenge Real Madrid for their sixth UEFA Super Cup title. If successful, Lookman would follow in the footsteps of Nigerian football legends Nwankwo Kanu, Finidi George, and Celestine Babayaro.
Ahead of the match, Lookman expressed his team’s enthusiasm and readiness to face Real Madrid. “We’ve worked hard to get here, and we’re excited for the opportunity. Real Madrid is a top team, but we also have quality players and our fans’ support,” Lookman said.
Real Madrid is the favorite for the match, but history shows that Champions League winners don’t always dominate the Super Cup, providing Lookman and Atalanta with a strong chance to secure victory.
