Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, has called on the Super Eagles to strive for victory in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 qualifier against Libya.

In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Diana-Mary Nsan, on Thursday, Enoh cautioned the team against underestimating the Mediterranean Knights as they prepare for the crucial match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Friday.

“Your strong start in the qualifiers has placed you in a promising position to secure a spot in the 2025 AFCON tournament,” Enoh stated. “However, you must not be complacent, as the Mediterranean Knights will be determined to upset the odds, aiming for at least a draw in Uyo. Never underestimate your opponents.”

He added, “The entire nation is behind you; make us proud, and best of luck.”

Super Eagles Head Coach Augustine Eguavoen has also set high expectations, aiming for a full six points from the double-header fixtures against Libya.

“We see opportunities to secure our qualification at the end of these two matches, and we will do everything we can to capitalize on them and earn our ticket,” Eguavoen remarked.

Nigeria currently leads their group with four points from two matches, holding a one-point advantage over Benin Republic and two points ahead of Rwanda. A double victory over Libya would boost the Super Eagles to 10 points, putting them in a strong position to advance.
