A’ibom: Police nab Monarch for attempted murder,nab two cable vandals

The Police in Akwa Ibom has arrested a traditional ruler for allegedly trying to kill his sister with a gun following a disagreement over palm trees.

It has also arrested two men suspected of vandalizing public electricity infrastructure at Ikot Ekpene area of the state.

n Uyo said the suspect, Chief Friday Umoren who is also the village of Ibagwa in Abak Local Council was nabbed after a report from his brither..

The victim who was immediately taken to a Hospital, is said to be currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

“On September 6, 2025, at approximately 2:30PM, Operatives of the Command received a report of an attempted murder.

“The report filed by a man (name withheld) that his brother, Chief Friday Jonah Umoren, the village head of Ibagwa, allegedly shot their sister, Unwana Effiong Friday Inyang, 32yrs, in the head with a gun.

“Police responded to the scene, and the suspect, Chief Friday Jonah Umoren, was arrested and taken into custody. A long, single-barrel gun believed to have been used in the assault was recovered from his possession.

“Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was the result of a misunderstanding over palm fruits. ” The statement explained.

A separate statement said the two vandals were arrested following a credible information from a concerned community member,.

,”A police crack team was dispatched to a farmland in Nkap village where miscreants were reported to be stealing electrical cables and other property belonging to the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution (PHED) company.

,”The team apprehended John Joseph Udo, 33yrs and David Anthony Udo, 37,yrs both from Ifoho village in Ikot Ekpene Local Government Area, while they were in the act of vandlizing PHED electric cables. The stolen cables were recovered from the suspects at the scene.

“An investigation is underway to recover more stolen items and identify and arrest the individuals who purchase these stolen items. Suspects will be charged to court accordingly.

It commended the swift action of the youth which led to the successful arrest while the incident showed the importance of community partnership in combating crime and protecting critical public infrastructure.
