A’Ibom terminates contract of multi Billion Naira Nsit Atai/Okobo road

By Ogenyi Ogenyi,Uyo

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has terminated the contract for the Multi Billion Naira Nsit Atai/Okobo/Oron Road to pave way for it to be re-awarded and delivered in record time.

He has also expressed his desire not to use bank loans to fund infrastructural projects in the state.

Eno who disclosed this weekend at a funeral service at Nsit Ubium Local Council assured that government under his watch would judiciously spend resources by channeling the funds into projects for the benefit of Akwa Ibom citizens, and warned people to desist from obstructing projects with illegal structures for compensation.

The Governor used the occasion to reel out projects undertaken by his administration in the Oro Federal Constituency assuring that he is bent on executing more projects in the area adding that each of the 31 Council has at least two ongoing projects.

“There is no local government in the State which at least two projects are not ongoing. By the grace of God, we will continue to do more. We are spending money on projects and people are working and making a living from those projects.

“We will continue to use the State money for this State. We will create jobs, and government will support hardworking people who are ready to work. Our administration will continue to touch rural people. During our campaign, I promised to serve you, and I will continue to serve you.” He said.

The Governor also disclosed that despite approving funds for many projects, the State government has not taken any loan facility.

“All the projects we have been doing ,we are proud to say, we have not taken one loan from any bank in the last 10 months. I believe that we can use the resources we have in this State to work for the our people.

“I thank the Oro people, our in- laws. I’m working for you, as I do with the entire state, and I will continue to work for you. I will serve you in Oro Nation by building on the foundation of my predecessor. We will do much more.” Eno added.

The state government had in recent times came under heavy fire over their perceived unseriousness in the completion of the project.

Only recently, the people of Oron had expressed their frustration for the inability of the state government to complete the road, awarded more than ten years ago, blaming it on a deliberate ploy by other ethnic nationalities in the state to retard the growth of people of the area.

A former commissioner of works in the state Mr Ephraim Inyang had only few weeks ago blamed the delay in the completion of the rod project on lack of political will by the administration of former Governor Udom Emmanuel.
