By Ogenyi Ogenyi, Uyo

The Akwa Ibom Police have uncovered the bodies of Marine Hunters from the Ministry of Internal Security and Inland Waterways, who were kidnapped, murdered, and buried by notorious criminals in Unyenghe, Mbo Local Council.

The bodies were recovered yesterday following a tip-off from local residents, according to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) issued in Uyo.

The police acted on the information by launching a manhunt for the suspects, leading to the arrest of Anthony Archibong, 46; Emmanuel Emmanuel Otoyo, 18; Daniel Edet Okon, 26; Aniete Harry Tom, 34; and Joseph Okon, 44. They were apprehended along with Chief Okon Asuquo Eteokpo, the Village Head of Utit Antai, who is believed to be an ally and spiritual supporter of the criminals. Additionally, 15 live cartridges were seized from the suspects.

Following the arrests, a combined team from the police conducted an extensive search and found the victims’ bodies buried in shallow graves, with their heads dismembered.

The police have assured the public of their commitment to eliminating crime in the state and urged residents to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
