Anambra 2025: Soludo Confident of Re-Election, Sees No Strong Opponent

By Abigail Philip David

Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has expressed confidence in securing a second term, stating that he sees no formidable challenger ahead of the November 8, 2025, governorship election.

Speaking during a media chat to mark his third year in office on Monday, Soludo asserted that there is a general consensus among Anambra residents that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), has delivered good governance and deserves another term.

According to him, while voters in the state may support different parties in national elections, they remain steadfast in their loyalty to APGA when it comes to governorship and local government polls.

“If there is an election—and there will be—and I am a candidate, I will be on the ballot. But then, I ask: who else is running? Which party is fielding a candidate? So far, unless someone suddenly emerges, I haven’t heard of any serious contender,” he said.

Soludo acknowledged that many people have encouraged him to seek re-election but emphasized that the final decision lies with his party.

“The party must first approve my candidacy and grant me the platform. For me, this job is a deliberate commitment—my way of giving back and serving, to leave Anambra better than I met it. If APGA nominates me and the people of Anambra decide to renew my mandate, it would be a great honor and privilege to continue serving,” he added.

Anambra is one of eight states where governorship elections are conducted off-cycle due to past court rulings.
