The Nawfia community in Anambra State has refuted claims that its Vigilante Group was involved in the killing of three individuals in Agu-Isioye, amid an ongoing land dispute. The community, represented by the Nawfia Progressive Union, denied any connection to the tragic incident.
The land conflict involves Nawfia and neighboring towns Enugwu-Ukwu and Agu-Isioye, all in the Njikoka Local Government Area. Reports surfaced that on Monday, unknown gunmen, posing as potential land buyers, lured residents of Agu-Isioye to the disputed area and opened fire, killing three people instantly. Others managed to escape with injuries.
Anambra State Police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the deaths and said a Toyota Sienna van used by the attackers had been recovered. Speculation quickly followed, with some accusing Nawfia of orchestrating the killings.
The Nawfia community, however, has firmly rejected these allegations, insisting they had no role in the violent act. The incident remains under investigation by the police.
