An online Facebook post suggests that native doctors in Anambra have linked the recent death of Nollywood actor Junior Pope to a movie he starred in 20 years ago, claiming the river is upset with him because of the film.
The post emerged shortly after reports of Junior Pope’s drowning surfaced. According to the user, the actor’s fate may be due to a failure to appease the river deity, causing the river’s anger.
The post reads: “Based on the native doctors’ rituals, they stated that the river is angry with Junior Pope due to a movie he shot 20 years ago titled ‘ARA NWANYI ASABA’.”
It continued, stating that the river is identified as ‘ARA NWANYI ASABA’ and its anger was incited when the movie was filmed, suggesting those involved in the movie should avoid acting and water.
The post also implied that the river has seized Junior Pope’s body until two cows, male and female, are offered as sacrifices.
In response to the post, many individuals commented on the validity of the claims, expressing skepticism and sharing their own opinions.
Here are some reactions:
Eleojo: “I remember this movie ‘Nwayi Asaba,’ but I’m not sure if it was 20 years ago. The person who posted Junior Pope’s body was also in the movie.”
King John1990: “Nigerians, please let the guy rest in peace. He wasn’t in the movie ‘Ara Nwanyi Asaba.’”
ANCESTOR: “That’s a lie. He wasn’t even acting in movies when ‘Ara Nwanyi Asaba’ was shot.”
Cassie: “I don’t doubt the claim because the actress who starred in ‘Ara Nwanyi Asaba’ used to live in my neighborhood, and we experienced sleepless nights due to disturbances.”
These reactions highlight the varied opinions and skepticism surrounding the claims made in the original Facebook post.
