The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports claiming it approved the inauguration of a leadership council in its Delta State chapter.
In a statement on Tuesday, APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, clarified that the party had not sanctioned such a move.
“The attention of the National Working Committee of our great party has been drawn to reports circulating in sections of the media regarding the inauguration of the Delta State APC Leadership Council, allegedly approved by the National Leadership of our party.
“This is to clarify that the NWC did not grant approval for the inauguration or operation of a ‘Leadership Council’ in the Delta State Chapter of our party, as claimed by the reports,” the statement read.
Morka emphasized that the supposed leadership council has no constitutional backing within the APC’s structure.
“The said ‘Leadership Council’ is not a body created or recognized under the party’s Constitution, which clearly outlines the statutory organs, structures, and committees of the party, along with their respective powers and functions,” he stated.
The NWC reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the APC’s constitution and ensuring that only recognized structures operate within the party’s framework.
“The ‘Leadership Council’ is not one of the constitutional organs, ad-hoc structures, or committees of the party,” the statement concluded.
