The 9th National Youth Games (NYG) in Asaba has entered its seventh day, with 30 states now on the medals table, amassing a total of 346 medals.
Team Lagos tops the standings with 31 gold, 15 silver, and 12 bronze medals. Edo State follows with 23 gold, 9 silver, and 14 bronze medals, while hosts and defending champions, Delta State, are third with 14 gold, 17 silver, and 20 bronze medals.
While events such as kickboxing and wrestling are yet to commence, several others — including swimming, weightlifting, shooting, table tennis, para table tennis, karate, gymnastics, para powerlifting, scrabble, and chess — have been concluded, with focus now shifting to athletics.
Athletes remain in high spirits as fans and visitors enjoy the hospitality and serenity of Asaba, which is fast gaining recognition as a sports hub.
Business activities around the venues, especially at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, have recorded high patronage, with security agencies ensuring a safe environment for participants and spectators.
