ASUU Strike – OPCI President urges govt to find lasting solution

The National President, Yoruba Sociocultural Organisation, the Oodua Progressive Care Initiative (OPCI), Dr. Marouf Olanrewaju on Saturday condemned in totality the altitude of the Federal Government to the current and incessant strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The OPCI National President who made this known in a press statement issued and made available to journalists called on both the government and leaderships of ASUU to find lasting solution to the issue for the sake of the students who are leaders of tomorrow.

According to Dr Olanrewaju, “It is undisputable fact that development of any country is build on solid foundation of good Education and the best legacy any reliable Government can leave behind is good quality Education.
“According to Chief Obafemi Awolowo ‘Till kingdom come the literate will continue to govern illiterate.

” It’s unfortunate that today’s government attached none or little important to Education and welfare of Nigerians, believing that when things get worst in Education sector, they have what it takes to send their children and families abroad, forgetting that the children you denied Education today will be your children and family problem Tomorrow”.

The OPCI boss in the statement used the medium to call on the Federal Government under the leadership of General Muhammad Buhari to urgently pay serious attention into demand of ASUU, saying “not because of the Students alone but the Future of the Country, otherwise what we are experiencing today may be a child play consider to what will happen in Future.

“The money, resources and lives so far wasted to insecurity caused by the government are more than that of Ukraine where Russia invade them, because of the government I don’t care attitude on ASUU demand”

The Security Expert who also berates the current security situation of the country said, ” the security challenges we are facing in Nigeria today is a result and product of June 12 Strike and crisis during General Ibrahim Babangida and General Sani Abacha where all Nigeria institution closed for almost 4years, today the students that are unable to complete their Education then, now graduate to be a Kidnappers, armed robbers, Bandits, Ritualists and Boko Haram”.

The OPCI National President however commended the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwaroti Odunayo Akeredolu, for his giants stride on security and the boldly steps taken on headsmen and Bandits living in government reserve forest in his state, while calling on all Southwest Governors to emulate him in eradicating the security tension in their various state.
