Atiku donates N50m to Benue IDPs

By Isaac Kertyo, Makurdi

Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has Donated the sum of Fifty Million Naira to the Benue State Government towards the upkeep of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, in the state.

Alh. Abubakar who is the Presidential Aspirant on the platform of the People’s Democratic party, PDP, made the donation at the Government House Makurdi.

He told Journalists after a closed- door meeting with Governor Samuel Ortom that his response to the plight of the IDPs in Benue State came belatedly due to his studies overseas when the crisis between farmers and herders ensued.

The former Vice President who holds an honorific chiftaincy tittle in Tiv debunked the insinuation that he was deliberately silent during the crisis, explaining that he had issued several Press statements while studying abroad condemning the invasion of the Benue valley by  suspected armed herdsmen.

Responding, Governor Ortom had told the former Vice President that people of the state were not happy with him for abandoning them at the time he was needed most.

The Governor pointed out that as a chiftaincy tittle Holder of the Tiv nation, it behoves on him to provide cover for his people during trying periods.

Ortom, however, maintained that even though the visit of Atiku came belatedly, it was better than him not to have visited at all. He stressed that the good people of the state were happy to receive him as one of their own. Ends
