The Bafarawa Foundation has donated a total of N6 million to 119 protesters who were detained during the recent nationwide #EndBadGovernance protests. The funds were presented to the beneficiaries in a ceremony held on Tuesday at Arewa House, Kaduna.
The Foundation’s Director-General, Dr. Suleiman Shu’aibu-Shinkafi, confirmed that a similar donation would be made to the Kano youths in the coming days. He explained that the gesture aimed to alleviate the suffering of those detained during the protests.
“This support will help them continue their education, while others may use it to start small businesses,” Shu’aibu-Shinkafi said. He clarified that while the Foundation did not condone the actions of the protesters, the donation was a gesture of sympathy for their ordeal.
The former Governor of Sokoto State also urged the youths to be law-abiding citizens, advising them to seek redress through legal and peaceful means.
Malam Abdulrahman Baffa-Yola, a member of the foundation, stated that each beneficiary received N50,000. He noted that while peaceful protests are common worldwide, the #EndBadGovernance protests were marred by violence from hoodlums.
“Youths should resolve grievances peacefully and not resort to violence,” Baffa-Yola emphasized, urging the recipients to use the funds for their intended purposes.
In their response, Muhammed Abubakar and Abubakar Umar, who spoke on behalf of the other beneficiaries, expressed their gratitude for the donation. They promised to use the funds wisely and continue their education, vowing to remain good citizens.
