By Daniel Edu

In a tragic incident, gunmen have ambushed and killed nine members of a local vigilance group in Bauchi known as “Yan Ba Beli.” This attack occurred in Gamji village as the vigilantes were actively pursuing bandits who had been causing fear in the Ningi Local Government Area of the state.

The assailants reportedly laid an ambush for the vigilantes, and during the confrontation, they opened fire with more advanced weaponry, overpowering the Yan Ba Beli members. This resulted in the death of nine vigilantes, while others sustained injuries.

A member of the group, who chose to remain anonymous, shared that the incident unfolded on a late Sunday evening as Yan Ba Beli members were searching for the bandits on the rocky terrain near Gamji village.

Ibrahim Mato, the Caretaker Chairman of Ningi Local Government Area, confirmed the attack and strongly condemned it. He assured that the government is committed to doing everything possible to safeguard the lives and property of the citizens in the region.

It has been reported that the bodies of the nine victims were recovered on Monday and subsequently buried at the scene of the incident, following Islamic funeral rites.

The spokesperson for the Bauchi State Police Command, Ahmed Wakil, did not respond to messages for comment on the matter.
