Bandits Attack in Katsina Claims Life of Ex-NDA Instructor, Major A.G Mohammed

Tragedy struck in Katsina State as bandits reportedly killed Major A.G Mohammed, an officer of the 17 Brigade, Nigerian Army, who was actively involved in Operation Hadarin Daji.

The late Major Mohammed, serving as a commander overseeing military operations in the Vantumaki, Dan Ali, and Kankara axes of the state, fell victim to the relentless violence perpetrated by bandits in the North West region.

Security analyst and counter-insurgency expert, Zagazola Makama, shared the heartbreaking news of Major Mohammed’s demise on Friday via his X handle. Makama described him as one of the most gallant, courageous, and highly dedicated officers who paid the supreme price while combating banditry in the state.

Meanwhile, tributes poured in from colleagues and acquaintances mourning the loss of Major Mohammed. @skonz222 recalled their encounter with him during his tenure as a Captain at the Nigerian Defence Academy, praising his professionalism and dedication. Another user, @utaan55, hailed him as a gallant officer and a committed welfarist.

In a separate incident, Makama reported that terrorists in Zamfara State launched an attack on Wednesday, destroying an MTN mast in Zurmi town using a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG). This act disrupted communication channels between residents and response agencies, highlighting the ongoing challenges posed by terrorism and banditry in the region.

The Nigerian Army’s intensified efforts in combating banditry and terrorism underscore the grave risks faced by soldiers on the frontlines. Recent reports have documented the loss of several soldiers in various operations, including the recovery of mutilated corpses following an attack by suspected bandits in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
