Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team head coach, *Bankole Olowookere*, expressed his gratitude to Nigerians following the Flamingos’ dominant 4-1 win over New Zealand in their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup opener in the Dominican Republic.

Olowookere shared his appreciation on social media, thanking supporters for their backing. He remained optimistic about the team’s future performances. “We kicked off our campaign in the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup with an impressive 4-1 win against New Zealand,” Olowookere said. “I’m grateful for your support, Nigerians. Let’s hope for more positive results ahead.”

The Flamingos set the tone early, with Shakirat Moshood opening the scoring just two minutes into the match. Taiwo Adegoke doubled the lead in the 13th minute, followed by a third goal from Fareedat Abdulwaheeb’s lob in the 28th minute. By halftime, Nigeria led 3-0.

Captain Taiwo Afolabi extended the lead to 4-0 early in the second half. New Zealand’s Hannah Saxon pulled one back in the 60th minute, but Nigeria’s dominant display secured their victory.

The Flamingos will now prepare for their next match against Ecuador on Saturday, aiming to build on this excellent start.
