Bayelsa APC Endorses Tinubu for 2027 Re-election as Stakeholders Pledge Party Unity

Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State have unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 general elections, signaling renewed unity within the party ahead of the polls. The endorsement was reached on Tuesday during an expanded stakeholders’ meeting convened by the leader of the Bayelsa APC, Governor Douye Diri, at the Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha Banquet Hall in Yenagoa. The meeting marked the first major gathering of party leaders since Diri assumed leadership of the party in the state in October 2025.A motion endorsing President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid was moved by Senator Konbowei Benson, who represents Bayelsa Central Senatorial District, and seconded by a former Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and ex-Deputy Governor, Peremobowei Ebebi. The motion was unanimously adopted by party stakeholders present.

Addressing the gathering, Governor Diri expressed satisfaction with what he described as the party’s renewed cohesion, noting that the Bayelsa APC had now resolved past divisions and was operating as one united family. He urged party members to embrace forgiveness, humility, and collective responsibility, warning that internal bitterness and divisive tendencies could undermine peace, development, and electoral success.“ Here we are today as one big APC family,” Diri said. “I appreciate the old members for their warm reception. Political parties are vehicles for development. Let us truly be progressives. Our priority is to ensure President Tinubu returns for a second term. Power comes from God.”

The governor also advised members with political ambitions to exercise restraint and place the collective interest of the party above personal aspirations at this stage of the political cycle. In his remarks, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, described the meeting as a turning point for the Bayelsa APC, stressing that the party’s singular objective was to deliver victories at all levels in the 2027 elections, beginning with President Tinubu’s re-election.

Similarly, the Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere; former APC governorship candidate, Chief David Lyon; and Niger Delta Basin Development Authority Managing Director, Prince Ebitimi Amgbare, commended Governor Diri’s inclusive leadership style. They noted that the atmosphere of reconciliation and unity would significantly strengthen the party’s electoral prospects.

The APC Caretaker Committee Chairman in the state, Dr. Dennis Otiotio, praised the governor for reconciling factions that had divided the party for years. He added that the meeting also served as a mobilization platform for members to actively participate in the ongoing electronic party registration exercise.Other prominent party leaders in attendance included Senator Benson Agadaga (Bayelsa East); Niger Delta Development Commission Managing Director, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku; and South-South APC National Working Committee Ex-Officio member, Hon. Godbless Diriware. The meeting also observed a minute of silence in honour of former Bayelsa West Senator, John Brambaifa, who died on January 3, 2026, in Abuja. The unanimous decision by Bayelsa APC stakeholders to back President Tinubu underscores the party’s strategy to consolidate internal unity and strengthen its position ahead of the 2027 general elections.
