Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has refuted widespread social media rumours linking him to the pregnancy of reality TV star, Nengi Hampson.
The speculation, which recently gained momentum online, alleged that Nengi had given birth to the governor’s child. Some reports even claimed that Diri has four wives.
On Monday, social media platforms were flooded with claims that the 27-year-old former *Big Brother Naija* star was expecting a child with the governor, who appointed her as Senior Special Assistant on Girl Child Development in 2020.
Addressing the rumours on his Facebook page on Tuesday, the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Samuel Oredipe, condemned the allegations as “fake news” propagated by “wicked people.”
Oredipe clarified that there is no personal relationship between Nengi and Governor Diri beyond her official role. He further accused political opponents of fabricating the story in an attempt to tarnish the governor’s reputation as his administration celebrated its fifth anniversary.
