Benue Security Council Condemns Assassination attempt on Gov Ortom by Militiamen Herders, Lauds PMB over Swift Reaction

Benue State Security Council has condemned the recent assassination attempt on Governor Samuel Ortom by alleged Militia Herders at his farm in Makurdi. 

Briefing Newsmen shortly after the meeting at the Government House Makurdi, Governor Ortom who presided over the meeting restated his administration’s commitment to provide the political will to fight insecurity despite the attack.

Ortom commended President Muhammadu Buhari over his prompt reaction to the incident by condemning the attack on him.

The Governor contended that ” issues of insecurity should not be politicized. Security issues in Nigeria is beyond politics. I join Mr President to appeal that nobody should politicize the issue”.

The Governor’s convoy was on Saturday attacked by armed Militiamen while he was inspecting his farm at Tyo Mu, a few kilometers away from Makurdi.

Ortom who recalled the recent attack on the Governor of Borno State by bandits, called on Nigerians to come together for the unity of this country, warning that Nigerians are sitting on a gun powder.

He hinted that the Fulani Nationality Movement (FUNAM) had claimed responsibility severally over the killings in Benue State and other parts of Nigeria, stressing that the assassination attempt was a plan to eliminate him.

The Governor who appreciated God for saving his life during the attack, contended that he would continue to uphold equity, Justice and fairness at all times.

Ortom applauded the Governors’ Forum, the People’s Democratic party, PDP, Religious and Traditional Leaders as well as the media among others for identifying with him over the incident.
