Benue State Security Council has condemned in its entirety the gruesome murder of twelve Military Officers in Konshisha Local Government Area of Benue State by yet to be identified gunmen.
The incident it was learnt resulted in reprisal attack by the Military where many people lost their lives and property worth millions of naira were destroyed.
The meeting which was presided over by the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom tasked Traditional Rulers and other stakeholders to ensure quick return of twelve rifles belong to the slain soldiers.
Briefing Newsmen shortly after the expanded Security Council meeting with stakeholders from Konshisha in attendance, Governor Ortom said the meeting implored security operatives to apprehend those behind the heinous act and prosecute them.
According to the Governor only six persons were killed during reprisal attacks by the Military contrary to speculation being making the rounds that eight people were murdered.
Ortom who hinted that the meeting cautioned against inflammatory comments from members of the public concerning the incident, however, enjoined the people to allow security agents to do their work. ” Making inflammatory comments that can’t be justified won’t help”, he warned.
Meanwhile, the Benue State Government has directed the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, in Benue State to as a matter of urgency ascertain the number of the Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, with the aim to cushion their hardship.
