Benue State Internal Revenue Service, BIRS, is to partner with the Benue State Police Command to flush out illegal road blocks across the state to enhance revenue generation.

Acting Executive Chairman of BIRS, Mr Emmanuel Agema, disclosed this when he led other top management staff of the service on a familiarization visit to the new Commissioner of Police, CP Hassan Steve Yabanet, at the police headquarters, Makurdi.

In a press statement by the Chairman’s Media Assistant, Jacinta Bernard, noted that ” the Police Force as a critical stakeholder to BIRS, it was imperative that they make the early call to identify with the Commissioner.”

Mr Agema, stated that the state has been grappling with the issue of illegal road blocks by some criminal elements who harrass and extort traders and motorists on the highway. He urged the Commissioner to sustain and redouble the efforts of his men in tackling the menace.

The Chairman presented to the Commissioner the list of gazetted BIRS inspection and monitoring points across the state, explaining that the aforementioned points have Mini offices and sign posts indicating there locations.

He pointed out that the offices are being operated by the staff of the service who always wear reflective jackets while on duty with their staff identify cards for easy identification.

Responding, the Commissioner of Police, CP Hassan Steve Yabanet, who underscored the importance of revenue to the government, assured that he will sustain the synergy of the Benue State Police Command with that of the Service to enable it achieve its mandate of generating revenue for the state.
