Black Wednesday: Petrol tanker explosion kills many in Abuja

It was a black Wednesday evening in Abuja when a petrol filled tanker suddenly failed break and exploded at around 6: 15 pm at the popular karu bridge, on the Nyanyan- Mararaba road axis.

Following eyewitness reports, the truck lost control around Karu bridge exploded multiple times, trapping cars held up in the traffic jam on their way home.

A witness who spoke with Daybreak said many cars were trapped with occupants struggling to escape while others scampered for safety, another eyewitness said two elderly men, who were rescued from the scene of the explosion were rushed to Nativity Hospital in Karu.
As at the time of filing this report, about two fire service vehicles had arrived at the scene.
