Bobrisky: Board Suspends Two Correctional Officers in Lagos Over Allegations

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board has suspended two senior officers from the Kirikiri Medium Custodial Centre in Lagos following allegations linked to Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky.

The suspension comes after a voice note shared by social media influencer Martins Otse, a.k.a. VeryDarkMan, where Bobrisky claimed that after his conviction and sentencing in April for naira abuse, his godfather and the Controller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service arranged for him to serve his six-month sentence in a private residence.

According to a memo issued on Thursday by the board’s secretary, Ja’afaru Ahmed, the suspended officers include Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections in charge of the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kirikiri, Lagos, and Sikiru Adekunle, another Deputy Controller of Corrections at the same facility.

The memo read: “Following the viral video trending on social media concerning alleged misconduct by officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service related to Mr. Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire, and Immigration Services Board has immediately suspended the following senior officers of the service: Michael Anugwa, DCC, In-Charge of MSCC Kirikiri, Lagos State, and Sikiru Adekunle, DCC, In-Charge of MSCC Kirikiri, Lagos State.”

In a related development, another officer, ASC II Ogbule Obinna, stationed at the MSCC in Afikpo, Ebonyi State, was suspended for allegedly escorting an inmate out of the facility without authorization.

The memo added: “ASC II Ogbule Obinna has been suspended for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to a location outside the facility.”

Additionally, Deputy Controller of Corrections Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, based at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Kuje, Abuja, was suspended for allegedly receiving money on behalf of an inmate.

The suspensions were instituted to enable thorough investigations into these allegations. Ja’afaru Ahmed confirmed that the suspensions would remain in effect until investigations are concluded, and the results will be made public.
