In a dramatic development, Edo State House of Assembly Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, has suspended three lawmakers over an alleged plot to impeach him and other principal officers.
Among the suspended lawmakers is Donald Okogbe, representing PDP, Akoko-Edo II, known to be an ally of impeached deputy governor Philip Shaibu. Okogbe notably abstained from signing the petition that led to Shaibu’s impeachment.
The other two suspended lawmakers are Addeh Emankhu Isibor, representing APC, Esan North-East I, and Iyamu Bright, representing PDP, Orhionnwon II.
Agbebaku accused the trio of orchestrating disruptive actions, including bringing native doctors to the House to perform rituals on May 1 at 1 am.
The suspended lawmakers contested their suspension, leading to a tense and rowdy session where they argued against the Speaker’s authority to unilaterally suspend members without a vote.
Amidst the chaos, the Speaker adjourned the plenary abruptly, leaving unresolved tensions within the House.
