BREAKING: Emefiele Appears in Court, Seeks Modification of Bail Conditions

In a significant development, the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, is presently in court seeking a modification of his bail conditions. Emefiele faces trial on six counts related to procurement fraud amounting to N1.2 billion.

This marks the initial instance of his appearance in court without the accompaniment of heavily armed security personnel guiding him to the courtroom. Emefiele was released from the Kuje Custodial Centre on December 23, 2023, following 34 days of detention after the judge granted him bail.

The former CBN governor is requesting the court to reconsider certain terms of his bail conditions. Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court is currently hearing arguments on the matter. Further details will be provided as the situation unfolds.
