BREAKING: Explosion Rocks Jos, Injuries Reported

By Abigail Philip David

A powerful explosion rocked the city of Jos on Tuesday morning, causing widespread alarm in nearby communities. The blast occurred around 10:30 a.m. near the busy Terminus market area, a densely populated part of the city.

Eyewitnesses report that several people sustained injuries, and there are unconfirmed reports of possible fatalities. The extent of the damage remains uncertain, though witnesses describe scenes of chaos and destruction.

“I was nearby when I heard a loud bang,” said Gyang Buba, a clothes vendor at the market. “People were running and screaming. It was terrifying.”

Emergency responders, including police, firefighters, and ambulance teams, quickly arrived on the scene to assist. The Plateau State Police Command has not yet issued an official statement, and attempts to reach Command spokesman Alabo Alfred were unsuccessful, as his phone was turned off.

However, security sources at police headquarters in Jos confirmed the incident, stating that an investigation is underway. “The area has been cordoned off as investigators assess the situation. We urge the public to remain calm and assure them that all efforts are being made to ensure their safety,” the source said.

The incident has raised security concerns in Jos, a city that has experienced periodic unrest in recent years. Residents are calling on authorities to bolster security measures.
