BREAKING: Fire guts INEC Director”s office in Abuja

There was a fire incident at the Abuja office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on Monday morning.

The fire incident affected the office of the INEC Director of Voter Registry, Emmanuel Akem, the commission stated.

The fire, which started at about 10.30 a.m., was quickly put out by a combined team of fire fighters from the Federal Fire Service and the FCT Fire Service; assisted by officials of the National Emergency Management Agency.

Apart from office equipment and the personal effects of the Voter Registry Director which were lost to the fire incident, the operational capacity of the Commission has not in any way been affected, the commission stated.

The cause of the fire is being investigated and is expected be made known in due course.
