By Abigail Philip David

Four soldiers stationed at the Myoung Barracks in the Morocco area of Shomolu, Lagos, are feared dead, with others injured, after a suspected drunk driver collided with them during their monthly road jogging.

According to sources, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday as the soldiers were jogging outside the barracks when a Toyota vehicle, occupied by three young men, sped into them.

An eyewitness, Priscilla, who lives in the area, told reporters that the driver and his passengers attempted to flee the scene immediately after the collision, but they were caught by the crowd. The vehicle was vandalized, and one of the young men was reportedly stabbed during the altercation.

Priscilla described the scene: “It happened this morning when the soldiers were on their usual road walk. The vehicle rammed into them, killing four soldiers and injuring several others. After the crash, the young men tried to escape, but they were caught and beaten badly. One of them was stabbed, and the vehicle was destroyed.”

The incident has caused widespread panic among local residents.

At the time of this report, neither Olabisi Ayeni, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, nor Benjamin Hundeyin, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, had responded to inquiries.
