In a shocking development, the Labour Party revealed on Wednesday that the home of its national chairman, Julius Abure, was engulfed by fire in the early hours of the day.
According to a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the incident is suspected to be an assassination attempt on the chairman.
The statement recounted the harrowing experience, stating, “His residence was engulfed by a mysterious fire which started a few minutes after 1 am while Abure and members of his family were asleep.”
It continued, “The entire family was trapped as the inferno had reached the staircase, making it impossible for Abure and his family to escape.”
Fortunately, with the aid of neighbors and security personnel in the compound, the family managed to escape. The courageous act of pulling down one of the upstairs windows allowed them to flee to safety.
Firefighters arrived promptly after the evacuation and worked tirelessly to contain the blaze.
Abure and his family were immediately rushed to a private hospital for treatment. Despite the ordeal, their condition is reported to be stable.
The Labour Party expressed deep concern over the incident and called for a thorough investigation to uncover the cause of the fire and any possible motives behind the suspected assassination attempt on its national chairman.
